So does ASM, and VB6. all languages can do the same (mostly, with some effort), the question is the developer, not the language. a good developer with a bad language can do more than a bad developer with a great language.
Haters-be hate'n.
And how exactly does the one process per tab of chrome address memory issues? Chrome is complete garbage for me after 30ish tabs. Talk about unresponsive...
The great thing about this model is that closing the tabs kills the processes and therefore frees up memory. Last time I used FFx extensively (6 months-1year ago) I could not say the same thing, even after they announced having a pretty major fix for leaks.
On another note, the work environment is a crowded open space with people constantly yelling to each other. They advertise a 50 hour work week with no lunch break. My impression is that your base salary is just over $100k, without any indication of bonuses for software engineers.
If (emphasis on if) that is true, the only reason I can see people going there is a false sense of elitism.
No, not at all. This is exactly like SOPA. A totally non-infringing activity (serving food in a restaurant) becomes criminal when someone starts playing an infringing song. Now, there is a bit of a hedge here - the rightsholder would technically have to ask you to stop, and you would have to refuse, before the feds came.
But before the Feds come, Warner could put the restaurant out of business by making its banks and credit card processors dump them, newspapers and magazines not advertise them, printers not print their menus, etc. And all of this without a judge ever being involved.
Why all the hate against CS education? It's a tough balance between theory and vocation...but I think it's extremely short-sighted to think vocation should rule all.
It's not necessarily vocation. It's just building things. Craft is the word I use in my head. I enjoy CS a lot, but I primarily want to be a better craftsman. CS is a useful tool for me to get better at my craft, but my primary interest is in being good at building things.
