It's extremely sensitive around a few points:
1) hazerdous materials
2) content perceived to be for children
3) building safety (and possibly other safety)
I discovered this by having it tell me the story of the four little pigs, and trying to get it to make more and more extreme modifications to the houses (I was having fun with it :-) )
I eventually tried to have it build one of the houses out of depleted uranium. I could absolutely not get it to do so. I inevitably got a response similar to:
"I'm sorry, but I can't include the use of depleted uranium in the story of the four little pigs. Depleted uranium is a highly toxic and radioactive material that should not be used as a building material, especially in a children's story."
Which I thought was pretty funny in general. I could not get it to do anything with depleted uranium in an inappropriate setting at all regardless of the context.
I had a similar experience with weaponry and military related items, but there it seemed to be willing to generate stories as long as they were not perceived to be for children. I was even able to get it to generate the story of the four little pigs
All very interesting. But there are definitely some hard guidelines around it.
As an interesting note, I was able to get it to tell me a story about military and weaponry, but i had to come at it from a different angle then a childrens story.
I would suggest something a bit different. Give to someone else. Volunteer for something, and reliably show up especially when it is difficult for you. Being needed is a common need for much of humanity, and having others rely on you is a good way to fill that need.
There is nothing wrong with having multiple motivations for doing something. Ultimately, you are helping someone else. Your motivation for doing so does not reduce the fact that you have helped them.
Additionally, it's natural to care about things you put effort into. If you continue to show up for volunteering when it is difficult for you, you will eventually begin to care about those you are helping.
one thing i havent seen mentioned here yet is to give to someone else. volunteer, and be reliable in showing up especially when its difficult. the act of giving is very powerful as it causes people to feel needed - which can go a long way to helping with loneliness. it also can help alleviate the feeling of being "inauthentic" as you are giving and thereby getting. theres nothing wrong with having multiple motivations for doing things. or even a single selfish motivation when you are helping meet someone elses needs.
I recently started using this to automate my homefolder, and it has been a real lifesaver. I use it to ensure that all of my various custom scripts and configs work across different machine types (mac, windows, linux), architectures (arm and intel), and usernames (work-enforced and other). take a look at state/federal government jobs. im not saying there arent plenty of people working in government who are climbing the ladder and moving up, just that there are plenty of people who are coasting the way you describe. i live in the dmv area, and know many of them in both directions.
I don't expect too much criticism of China in this thread. Too much Chinese money in SV startups for most people to risk it. I expect underhanded comments deriding the US instead as is typical in threads like these.

Despite HNs sponsorship, I don’t get the impression that the readership is dominated by people financially dependent on the SV startup scene. Sure, they are overrepresented here, but given how small a percentage of world the SV startup scene is, it can be massively overrepresented and still be a minority position, and HN has a very broad audience.
Does exactly what you describe with a minimum of fuss.
