I'm just SO HAPPY we can talk about something that doesn't involve the Iran war, ICE etc. This is a really historic moment, I hope that the current and future administrations continue investing in space exploration. I've waited my whole life for this as the entire "action" happened before I was born. Hubble/James Webb/ISS are cool but Artemis is something else!
Warranty lives tend to be in the 20+ year range and potential lifespan even higher, so .. kinda?
By coincidence I had my solar panels installed round about the time construction started on Hinkley Point C. They've already paid back their installation cost. I don't expect to replace them any time soon.
Historically panels are generally considered to be exhausted after 30 years of service, although even that means they're down to 80% of their original capacity.
The more failure prone component is the inverter, by a huge margin.
Cool! My only concern is that Wired has a very long and consistent history of advertising technologies that don't work quite as they say. So let's hope this is real.
BYD is shipping both charging stations and cars with blade battery 2.0 first half of 2026. Both economic and premium models can charge from 0 - 97% under 12 minutes. They are also building these charging stations right now and few hundreds are already operational.
I’m not sure how well Wing Commander would have run on that machine. It had to have been borderline, slow or choppy. I played Wing Commander on a 386.
That’s also a combination that I don’t remember too many people having. A Sound Blaster and a VGA card in a 286. Yes in some ways with that particular combination, you’d be rising above the Commodore. But it’s a bit unusual.
