Yes, the toys thing is great - we have the cleaning set at 10am every morning and you've never seen a kid scramble to tidy up so quickly as when she hears the robot start up!
Indeed, I had these as a kid in the 80s. Coins are simply inserted in the top right and roll down before falling into a stack. Hours of fascination!

In my experience thats not the case - its more like 'It works, no-one touch it! We're spending our money on more visible things' (several years later):- "Whats that, its no longer going to be supported? Damn, now we have to upgrade"
Its useful for reading your email on those 'free' wifi networks that require you to give your name, address mothers maiden name, and credit card before getting http access.
What I did find interesting is that it's not actually environmentally unfriendly, because the hot energy is stored in a very well insulated manner, and because it's near 100% efficient in the amount of water heated/used (whereas in a regular kettle you tend to overboil and boil too much water, and in an electric kettle there's often even a minimum fill that's larger than the needed water).
At least that's the story I've been reading on unaffiliated websites.
The end of the Wow Beta was pretty fun; giant elementals (raid boss size) attacked the major cities, most people weren't beyond level 20 and I'd certainly seen nothing like it before. Of course we couldnt make a dent in them but it was a unique (at the time) experience, well done Blizzard.
