I get what this guy is driving at. Back in the day, there was large step changes in desktop capabilities that are just a gradient of capabilities now.
For me, it's about my home lab. There I build capability that's not quite as common in desktops (10/40Gbe networks, object storage arrays, clusters etc...) And it's not that expensive with all the second life kit as long as you don't count the power costs!
Why need a development code base when you can just directly edit and save to prod? I remember opening tomcat prod directories, edit the html and saving it live in prod years back. Maybe that’s where we are headed.
