As a competitive FPS player, I can say that it's not just about "changing the actuation point to your liking", but a software feature called "Rapid Trigger" [1].
This thing is here to stay, in the past I've tried all types of mechanical switches (Blue/Brown/Red) and this easily beats them all in competitive FPS, the responsiveness is on another level, and you just can't go back after that.
I've read somewhere that white noise is similar to what they hear while they are inside their Mom, so this puts them into a familiar environment, which makes them calm.
For me the big issue with DST is the stress to the organism it's causing at every transition from winter to summer time. So I was wondering instead of picking between Winter and Summer time, can't we make the transition less stresfull? I.e. instead of shifting the time by 1 hour twice a year, shift it by 15 minutes 8 times in a year? Maybe this way the organism won't feel it so much?
I don't think so - in the Linux bug, Firefox becomes unresponsive, whereas in the bug in the article, Firefox runs as normal, and the blanks can be cleared by scrolling or mousing over.
I see a somewhat similar bug on my Linux box, where windows flicker between black and normal, and the flickering stops if i focus on the window. I don't think it's specific to Firefox, though - i believe i've seen all sorts of apps do it. I do have an nvidia graphics card, FWIW.
As someone who experience this very often I can't say that Firefox is becoming unresponsive, you can still scroll up/down, change tabs, etc.. but the all pages are glitched similar (even worse) to the screenshots.
I guess because on Newspapers, Radio and TV you cannot target a specific group of people. Yes, someone can argue that you can target a specific Newspaper, Radio or TV which may have a specific group of people, but I think its not the same.
I vehemently disagree - these walrus vars are still in scope outside of the condition block. And on top of that, now there are special conditions for these walrus vars which are completely not obvious.
I understand that nobody will force me to use this feature, but as I said before, even the spec and the write up tells how this feature is confusing and .. complex.
I know and I believe there is a purpose to be exactly after that line. Writing only simple code is not enough. If you write everything in a simple manner your code will most likely be complicated, that's exactly why you have next - complex is better than complicated.
I see this feature the same way as comprehensions, scary and complex at first, but once you learn it you would wish anyone would use it.
"In September 2007 Koum and Acton left Yahoo and took a year off, traveling around South America and playing ultimate frisbee. Both applied, and failed, to work at Facebook."
"On February 9, 2014 Zuckerberg asked Koum to have dinner at his home, and formally proposed Koum a deal to join the Facebook board - 10 days later Facebook announced it was acquiring WhatsApp for US$19 Billion USD."
It seems unlikely to me that as a full time Facebook engineer Koum would have still had time to create a multi-billion dollar startup.
It also seems unlikely to me that he would have been motivated to put in that work for an employer, or that Facebook would have given him the time or freedom necessary to do it.
If he had been hired, he'd have probably been a fine engineer, but there's really no reason to think he'd have added more value than the next guy. The skillset needed to create a successful startup is not the same as the skillset needed to be an effective engineer at a large company.
Are you saying that Facebook employees are not motivated to work? Or that now after he has been hired, he is not adding any value anymore?
Facebook is a multi-billion dollar startup and its created by the people working there. So it may not be my favorite company, but I give respect to that, and the people working there.
I can't say what's the skillset to be an effective engineer at a large company, but I do believe that it must be a SUBSET of the skillset required to create a successful startup.
