Just another N=1 anecdote: It didn’t work for me when I was dealing with depression a few years ago.

I also lost a dear friend to suicide and he was very succesful and active on his field when it happened. Nobody saw it coming.

It's just not that simple.

This comment comes across as quite naive. If the solution were truly that simple, we wouldn't see so much people suffering from depression, anxiety, addiction, etc. around the world.

Well, for starters, I guess keeping the "do not send voice recordings" toggle would be a good idea.

AFAIK - "Doomscrolling can also be defined as the excessive consumption of short-form videos or social media content for an excessive period of time without stopping"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomscrolling

I did that for Facebook (unfollowed everyone but my direct family). It worked great for a time. Now my feed is filled to the brim with suggested posts from pages and groups that have nothing to do with me and low-quality fake AI images to push controversial fake news. It's become unusable unfortunately, so I don't use it anymore.

upthread is linked socialfixer plugin, it seemed exactly what i wanted so i installed it and ... it's exactly what i wanted. Just my friends and a couple groups i actively joined, on purpose. I don't know how facebook differentiates "joined by commenting" vs "joined by request", but it seems to do it. You can also tell it to stop scrolling, defaults to 10 posts. you can tell it to order chronologically, instead of "the algo".

I read this post whenever it was made (the OP) and i'm glad i read downpage a bit, because i remembered 3 plugins mentioned, and the other one is fbpurity, and the third is i forget, but the Vet mentioned it i think (ctrl-f vet)

I'm working on a new design for a site I run just for fun.

It's a simple site for streaming local radios from my city, Mendoza (Argentina): https://www.radiosdemendoza.com.ar

It was built with WordPress, and the new theme is using Tailwind and AlpineJS. I hadn’t used AlpineJS before, so this project was a great way to experiment with it.

I don't have any monetization on it, and I'm not sure if I'll pursue that for this site.

Next up, I plan to build a Chrome extension. I have limited experience with that, so it should be a fun challenge.

Maybe you can try https://wxt.dev/ or plasmo for the extensions

Do you know if there's a way to get info about programming (show names and schedule) from the streams?

Yes, I've been considering both options! WXT seems to fit my use case better at the moment, so I might give it a try.

As for stream names, I’ve looked into it as well, but from the limited research I’ve done, it seems like only paid services are available.

I doubt there's a way to get the radios' programming since these are mostly small radios with very basic websites and online presence. Best I can get is an MP3/AAC stream and that's about it.

They would have made more money by tweeting the ETF got rejected. My guess is this was a mistake by an intern or something like that.

They sure managed to regain control of the allegedly "hacked" account in short order.

Even Twitter/X might not want to be responsible for this one, and answer the phone.

We have a similar situation in Argentina, with the exchange rate being around $350 pesos but the "black market" rate around $1,000.

The only way to get dollars at the official rate is to import goods from abroad, so you can pay the central back in pesos and they settle the invoice with dollars.

Of course, you can only do this if you have connections, otherwise you will be waiting for a long long time (months probably) until your request is approved.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you can still use a local debit or credit card to make purchases abroad. You will have to pay around $650 pesos for each dollar. The government taxes the heck out of every purchase abroad to discourage people from spending. Still there's a gap, so people use it while they can.

Western Union surprisingly gives the blue dollar rate here in Argentina so if you have access to a foreign bank account that is a decent way to do it. From what I can tell it tracks pretty closely to the rates on the “dólar hoy” website. On $500 transfers they charge $32.00 but you still come out ahead of the ATM or Credit Card conversion rates.

I had the same exact experience while travelling through Southeast Asia for several months a few years ago.

I came to the same conclusions you did, and I'm glad you were able to condense it in such a way.

It frustrated me though, to see that their youth were losing their old ways though. Of course it came with some benefits, but I saw them everywhere staring at their phone screens and could only feel nostalgic.

There are so many possible bad outcomes that can result from these options. Not a good idea at all imho.
