"Bland" is actually good; when reading source code, you should be able to pay no attention to the font, and concentrate on the text. I like how quotes, asterisk, circumflex, etc are large and legible.

I love bland. I agree that they should be very clear and legible, but I think they should to match the rest of the typeface.
