I also felt some bad vibes from this story. There are probably hundreds of US based companies exporting embedded crypto, but how many are exporting to China and Russia a RTOS for the aerospace and defense industries?

Careful: vxWorks applications to military/industrial work might be what got BIS's attention, but that's not what vxWorks is "for"; it's just a very popular RTOS.
